Top 5 winter fashion trends for 2017

Face Fashion event director Marvin Osifo reveals the latest cutting edge winter fashion trends from around the globe. Discover more about Marvin and his Face Fashion Melbourne debut fashion shows below this list.

1. BOLDLY EMBELLISHED

Seen at many shows this season, such as Dolce & Gabbana & Ellery, colourful, elaborate, heavily embellished pieces such as earrings, necklaces and clutches are replacing minimalist accessories.

The bolder the better! Pair them with looks featuring complimentary textures and colours to make a punchy statement.

2. ENDLESSLY ETHEREAL

Flowing, see–through, airy fabrics in shades of white, nude and lilac grey are a big-time trend.

Do like Prada Resort and layer these pieces with structured items over the top, both to make it more modern, and to keep you warm enough throughout the winter chill.

Guys can make this look work with a thin white shirt or a lightweight scarf.

3. TEXTURE, TEXTURE, TEXTURE

The latest show from Chanel Resort is telling us to go nuts with unusual, natural textures. Look for earthy materials in neutral tones of sand, ivory, cream, bronzes, desert reds and golds.

Tassels, fringing and raw edges will bring the look home.

To make it edgier, team it with denim or black leather.

4. OLD WORLD GLAMOUR

We’re ”taking it back to the old school” with some old-world glamour.

Giambattista Valli, Fendi & our own Alex Perry are leading us back to ultra-feminine shapes such as structured A-line skirts, pinched waist dresses and ladylike coats.

Meanwhile, the fellas will be channelling their inner 1950’s & 60’s dapper gentleman, looking worthy of the finest cigar. This look is all about good tailoring from head to toe, as well as choosing quality fabrics.

5. COLOURS OF THE SEASON

All shades of red will be the colours of this season. As seen on too many runways to mention.

Bright red, maroon, burgundy, berry and orange-reds. We’re also seeing the metallics sticking around, especially silver.

Reds can be paired with other bold colours, whereas metallics are so strong on their own that they don’t need much help being noticed.

Keep the look cool and simple, teaming with black or white pieces.
