Fashionology: the perfect transeasonal knit

Between stringy sunfrocks and chunky jumpers, the trickiest transeasonal wardrobe works like a well-oiled fashion machine, anchored by light, layerable knits you can shrug on or whip off any hot-cold-warm hour of any autumn day.

TRANSEASONAL KNIT 101

Cotton is coolest for close-fitting knits – a similar thickness in wool is too warm, defeating the transeasonal purpose.

Pick cashmere and thin-as-paper wool and cotton for slouchy over-layer knits – they’ll stop a nippy breeze but won’t add superfluous warmth.

Neutral colours and tones link better – back with your summer wardrobe, and forward to your winter layers.

HOT LOOK

Pure cotton Wina knit jumper by chi-chi French label Ba&sh doubles as an overlayer for summery basics or as a prettily textured underlayer for wintry jackets, coats and scarves, $460.
