Fashionology: 4 steps to picking the perfect winter knit

Warm as a blanket, snug as slippers, and vital for a killer fashion wardrobe.

WINTER KNIT 101

  • Voluminousness is the new knit \ buy oversized to emphasise.
  • Chunkier knits need careful shopping \ unless you’re slim as a reed, try first with skinny draped layers to counter their unflattering effect.
  • Natural, pure yarn knits (eg. wool, cashmere) are finest, softest and most resilient \ blends are nearly as good poly-mixtures invariably not.
  • Mind the prickle \ check by rubbing gently against your bare neck, or plan to always slip on a silky under-layer before your itchy knit.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND

Sifted from David Jones’ half-yearly clearance, this rather lovely, nicely priced – $179, down from $279 – rollneck cable knit by Trenery is modelled by Jesinta Franklin.

HOT LOOK

Country Road’s Woolmark poncho knit $179, drops lavishly to mid-thigh with warm, raglan volume across the shoulders and extra-long ribbed cuffs stretchable to freezing fingers. Worn here with Grid scarf, $99.95, and Katie boots, $299.

Also ask for your free copy of Country Road’s first magazine, Close Knit, its fashionable tribute to the wonders of wool and long-time collaborator The Woolmark Company.
