Dry skin is one of those winter time things that just happens, like fog on your windscreen or hat hair after removing your much-needed beanie.

It can make for an uncomfortable, and even painful, few months as your poor pores are blasted with the cold air outside and then fried by the overzealous heating inside.

There is a solution – actually a bunch of them – and they’re all new skincare brands.

Organic Island

The name says it all. This new Australian skincare brand is certified organic at home and overseas, meaning its products are free from nasties such as artificial fragrances and harsh synthetics. They include a day creme and a night cream, an eye cream, a moisturising hand lotion and a soothing paw paw salve for your lips. There’s also a great range of organic baby products.

Sand & Sky

Bellabox founders and twin sisters Sarah and Emily Hamilton launched their beauty brand in April with their Brilliant Skin Purifying Pink Clay Mask. Within weeks they had sold 60,000 of the face mask, which has natural ingredients such as Kakadu plum and – you guessed it – Australian pink clay.

Mary Cohr

Not exactly new, but new to Australia. The 40-year-old French beauty brand has just launched in Melbourne at Masque Day Spa in Albert Park. Its tried and tested range of skincare includes eye creams, day and night creams, neck creams and lip care. Specialised treatments are also available at Masque Day Spa.

Almost Peggy

You’ll be a’buzz about this one. Two words: Face Honey. Yep, these clever Melburnians have worked out a natural formula to harness the antibacterial properties of honey. The product has grape seed oil, organic agar agar and organic essential oils to help it glide on and wash off without feeling gooey or sticky.

Zilch Acne Formula

If you’re worried about spots, this one’s for you. Formulated by Melbourne doctor of Chinese medicine Vivian Tan, it uses traditional Chinese herbs that reduce inflammation and toxicity. It’s not a cream or an ointment, it comes in tablet form (all natural, no animal products and no gluten) so you can heal your skin from the inside out.

DermaEnergy

Designed for young guys and girls, this range launched earlier this year and  is all about making skincare fun. The products include moisturisers, cleansers and serums, and are specifically designed to be lightweight so they don’t overpower younger skin.
