Sales pitch

A little bit off-beat and a bit more carefully considered than your average gift shop.

Who’s behind the counter?

Before opening Lunar Store, Jules Unwin worked for three years as an account manager. It saw her travelling around to various shops, like the one she now owns. “I always wanted to have my own space,” Jules says. “I was on Greville Street having dinner one night and I saw an empty shop … It was very serendipitous. I had to decide whether to jump on board or carry on.” Four years on, Jules is passionate about what she does. “I love being my own captain, I love being part of a community, and I love supporting makers.”

What’s in store?

Handcrafted ceramics (such as the coveted Bridget Bodenham and Studio Arhoj), locally made jewellery from makers such as Emily Green (who is a store staple), illustrated gift cards and posters, cactuses, Elk accessories, Alchemy candles (including Lunar’s very own lychee and vanilla), Falcon Enamelware and other treasures such as Ghostly hand-dyed socks. Around three-quarters of the stock is designed and made in Australia.

Who’s buying?

Customers enter the store mainly looking for gifts, meaning Jules has the pleasure of helping people choose for others. With varying price points and unisex items, there is something for practically everyone. “People will often say it’s a one-stop shop when doing their Christmas shopping,” says Jules.
