The Weekly Review, Melbourne’s premiere free lifestyle and real estate magazine, has appointed prominent foodie-about-town Sofia Levin as Food Editor.
Sofia started writing about food while studying journalism at Monash University, when she began a blog. Seven years on, she is an in-demand freelance writer whose work has appeared in a range of publications, including The Age Good Food Guide, Frankie Magazine, Delicious, Lonely Planet and Time Out. She also writes a weekly column for Good Food.
Each week Sofia will take The Weekly Review’s readers inside our newest and best restaurants, provide a sneak peek into the private worlds of our top chefs, and share the latest news on food trends and events, fresh produce, cookbooks and more.
Food has always been a big part of Sofia’s home life; she sees her family for a meal twice a week, and has a longstanding Friday morning pilgrimage to Victoria Market with her mother in pursuit of fresh produce.
The Weekly Review Editor, Jane Hutchinson, said Sofia’s appointment was an important step in keeping the magazine’s print and digital editions relevant and engaging.
“The Weekly Review is now a genuine, multi-platform publisher delivering the highest-quality content to an engaged readership. Our recent survey told us that our readers love the quality and breadth of our restaurant, café, coffee and wine reviews,” she said.
“We have a huge distribution footprint in Melbourne’s inner suburbs, where there is a very strong and vibrant food, wine and coffee culture.
“Sofia provides a very different look at the local food scene, and we think our readers will love her!”
You might bump into Sofia at Aka Siro or Smith Street Alimentari in Collingwood, two of her local favourites, where she’ll very likely be accompanied by Jinkee, her beloved toy poodle who’s a minor celebrity on Instagram – 73,000 followers and growing.
“She’s two on April Fool’s Day,” says Sofia. “It’s not a coincidence.”
