THE VIBE New kid Meatworks celebrates the carnivore with Steampunk style.

THE DECOR A former mechanic’s garage from the 1930s (with original interior from the 1880s) has been converted into a lofty, airy space with repurposed steel and wood fittings.

THE CROWD Suits, families and friends meeting for brunch, lunch and – from next month – dinner.

THE FOOD  Meat from the land and the sea; 70 per cent smoked in-house, the rest roasted or braised. It’s no American barbecue house though; this is a multinational affair. I braved the smoked-meat platter, with smoked pulled brisket, lamb ribs, pulled pork, honey soy chicken wings, rye bread and house-made sauces.

THE DRINK Cocktails, house wine, tap beers and home-made sodas.

THE VERDICT

A destination eatery for meat lovers everywhere.
