Melburnians love their dumplings. Witness the queues spilling out of any humble dumpling joint, any night of the week, and you’ll see that it’s true.

So we’re guessing 206 Bourke Street is going to be absolutely pumping next Friday evening when it hosts an entire festival devoted to these juicy parcels of deliciousness.

Sittings for the free dumpling and beer pairing sessions are already totally booked out (given that these sittings will serve up dumplings by top Chinese restaurants Tim Ho Wan, China Red, China Chilli and Dragon Boat with craft beer matched to the dumplings by Good Beer Week co-founder and Brooklyn Brewery ambassador, Miro Bellini, this is hardly surprising).

But there are other activities and entertainment to enjoy: DJ Mikey Cahill will spin tunes and there will be dumpling making demonstrations and free “lava bombs” – sweet, custardy dumplings by Tim Ho Wan that are currently only available in Sydney – for the first 600 guests.

There are also free Chinese calligraphy workshops, presumably so you can learn how to write “I love dumplings”. And because too many dumplings are never enough, even if you can’t get to the festival, you can win a year’s supply by voting for your favourite dumpling restaurant.
