If you want to have a break from cooking this Christmas, why not take the family out instead? There’s a whole range of venues open on Christmas day offering everything from traditional fare, buffets and gourmet dishes to a more fun and adventurous take on Christmas lunch. All you have to do is rock up, sit back and relax with the family.

Grosvenor Hotel

A three-course meal at Grosvenor Hotel is the perfect way to treat yourself and the family. From Crystal Bay Prawns or Wagyu Bresaola for entree to traditional turkey breast, premium cuts of eye fillet or John Dory for main, you will have to make a conscious effort to leave room for dessert. If peanut butter parfait doesn’t appeal, you could always try the traditional Christmas pudding with brandy anglaise. Be sure to get in early because Christmas day tends to sell out quickly.

A Christmas lunch at Bells Hotel means less stress and more family time. Starters include seafood and Italian antipasto, followed by traditional Christmas fare with all the trimmings for mains: think oven-roasted meats such as slow-cooked ham and turkey breast. Of course, no one can go past plum pudding and brandy custard for dessert. The kids’ menu includes favourites such as fish & chips and pasta.

Cost: $130 per adult in the main hall and rooftop (drinks included); $110 per adult in the dining room and garden bar. It costs $35 per child (5 – 12) $9.50 per child (up to 5).

Gazi Restaurant

From renowned chef George Calombaris, Gazi Restaurant is putting on traditional Greek fare for Christmas day taking a journey from savoury to sweet including some of Gazi’s favourite dishes. Open from 11.30am, there’s the opportunity to book a table for the whole afternoon so you won’t have to rush any of those courses.

Cost: $165 per person ($85.00 children 5-12years).

Hyatt Place Essendon Fields

Hyatt Place in Essendon Fields are offering a sumptuous buffet lunch, including a traditional carvery, seafood and festive favourites for Christmas Day Lunch. Santa will also drop by and the venue includes a kids play area and light entertainment for the adults. Beer, wine and soft drinks are included in the price.

Cost: $145 per adult; $75 per child (5-12 years); Free (0-4 years).

For the most exquisite Christmas lunch or dinner you can’t go past The Hotel Windsor‘s Grand Ballroom. Dinner will feature modern Australian cuisine, with highlights including: terrine of turkey leg and breast, Windsor prawn cocktail, confit Tasmanian ocean trout, honey mustard glazed lamb ham, the hotel’s lauded mince pieces and the Windsor’s traditional Christmas pudding with chestnut crème and brandy sauce. A vegetarian menu is also available.

Cost: $349 per person for lunch in One Eleven Restaurant, or, $299 per person for the buffet in Grand Ballroom and Bourke Room.  Children $215 (13-18 years); $125 (4-12 years); under 3 years free.
