The festive season is made ever so joyful with family and friends dropping in for meals, and it’s the time of the year I tend to dig about in the cellar and share wines I’ve been carefully maturing.

One of my favourite aspects of this job is discovering great wines and highlighting them each week.

To save time (and money), I asked sommeliers from three pillars of dining to give me their insights into what’s going to be hot drinking.

A medallion-like gold sticker says the wine won a gold medal at a wine show. Does the medal mean the wine is any good? The simple answer is yes.

The Riverland is our biggest wine region – more than 21,000 hectares of irrigated vines provide a lush green carpet in the arid bushland – but for its size it has a really low profile. Things are, however, about to change.
