Bill Cunningham makes for an unlikely fashion doyen. In his mid-80s, he lives in a cramped New York office, sleeps on top of filing cabinets and spends his days riding through Manhattan on a second-hand bicycle, wearing a plastic poncho patched with duct tape.

On the surface, it’s a super-hip crime flick in which a nameless driver (Gosling) hurtles crooks from crime scenes as helicopters hover overhead, but this isn’t quite the film we think it is.

My lack of interest in anything sporting is an open secret. To me, a documentary on motorcycle racing sounds about as tempting as a detailed study on the art of drying paint.
