It was the adventure trip that became the holiday from hell, writes Tom Noble.

The Dandenongs, with their towering native forests and cool fern glades, are a good midwinter venue, augmented by the fogs that descend on the chain of quaint little villages.

If you grew up singing “it’s a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll”, or feel safe in the knowledge that “dirty deeds can indeed be done dirt cheap”, then a trip to Perth is definitely on the cards.

Melbourne is a truly marvellous place.
