Australian Launch of Toms \ October 25
05/11/2012
Melburnians gathered on the deck of Chapel Street haunt Speakeasy on October 25 to celebrate the Australian launch of TOMS, the hip footwear and eyewear movement with a cool offering. Founded by Blake Mycoskie on a simple premise, One for One, every TOMS purchase sees TOMS provide a new pair of shoes to a child in need. The brand has a similar philosophy for it’s new eyewear range. With the front section of the restaurant closed, guests entered via the back laneway, writing on the painted brick wall a one-word answer to a TOMS-inspired question – “What would you give?” Renowned street artists Maricor and Maricar worked busily on an impressive live art installation that wowed guests, who enjoyed upbeat tunes from Speakeasy’s resident DJ and sipping on bespoke blue Curacao TOMStini cocktails. TOMS will be popping up in Melbourne shops, including Hype DC, Patagonia and Glue.

Caulfield Cup \ October 20
05/11/2012
Caulfield Racecourse became awash with clashing patterns, neon, lace and peplums on Saturday following the final day and Grand Final of the 2012 Chadstone Fashion Stakes on what is famously known as the pinnacle of Caulfield’s spring racing season, the BMW Caulfield Cup. The Fashion and Entertainment Precinct played host to the increasingly popular racing fashion event, with more than 110 fashionistas parading in their interpretation of chic racing style. Judges included Kate Waterhouse and Jesinta Campbell, Anna Byrne (Herald Sun) and Leah White (Fashion Journal). Entrants competed to win a share in the $120,000 prize pool, but it was Melissa Buchanan from Moama, NSW who came out on top, sporting a head-turning black lace dress with a red underlay. The richest handicap race in the world over 2400m, the $2.65 million BMW Caulfield Cup was won by Duneden, beating Alocpop by half a length. The day ended with an outstanding performace by Eskimo Joe.

Melbourne Festival Opening Night \ October 11
29/10/2012
Artists, art-lovers, stakeholders and Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu all attended Melbourne’s Regent Theatre on Thursday, October 11 for the Melbourne Festival’s official opening. After a haunting performance of After Life, a contemporary opera from composer Michel van der Aa, VIP guests descended to the Plaza Ballroom for the glamorous opening-night party. There was an abundance of Champagne and canapés, which included Peking duck rolls and salmon blinis. And in true festival spirit, the dance floor was occupied until the early hours of the morning.
