Astor 75 Years

This year the iconic Astor Theatre in Chapel Street, St Kilda, turns 75. To celebrate the exquisite history of one of Melbourne’s greatest treasures, the theatre hosted a party and screened Ernest B. Schoedsack’s 1933 version of King Kong. On arrival, guests were greeted with music from the Jazz Cats, flutes of champagne and gourmet finger food.

MotorOn cocktail party

On April 2, Alto in GPO hosted the MotorOn 2011 cocktail party. In a bid to raise money and awareness for motor neurone disease, the event collected $50,000, which will be used to fund research into finding a cure for this life-threatening disease.

Afghan Star

Four hundred and thirty guests attended the Astor Theatre for the screening of the documentary Afghan Star. The film, which follows four contestants who feature in a reality television music competition, examines the fragmented tribal culture of Afghanistan. The screening was part of the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival and featured a keynote speech by former Australian prime minister Malcolm Fraser.

Ladies Luncheon

To celebrate this year’s grand prix, 150 stylish ladies enjoyed trackside entertainment at the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge. French celebrity chef Manu Feildel impressed the guests with a silky sausage of scallops and crustacean bisque. This was followed by Miguel Maestre’s pan-roasted kingfish with tomato salsa and jalapeño and chilli gazpacho.

To celebrate the launch of the Mick Doohan watch, TW Steel hosted a special evening on Wednesday, March 23. Hosted at ONESEVENONE in South Melbourne, the event attracted many sporting identities including David Coulthard, Michael Klim, Brad Green and Tom Hawkins.
