2013 Cascade First Harvest Ale Launch

Hobba Eatery & Bar in Prahran hosted a VIP cocktail event on Wednesday 22 May to celebrate the launch of the highly regarded 2013 Cascade First Harvest Ale, a limited edition handcrafted beer (only 5000 cases have been released). 2012 MasterChef contestant Ben Milbourne created a bespoke menu on the night to complement the beer, using artisan Tasmanian produce and ingredients. The event was attended by 150 guests, including media personalities, actors, socialites & models.

Phèdre \ The Malthouse

Bell Shakespeare opened its latest production, Phèdre, at The Malthouse on Wednesday night and if the crowd response is anything to go by this is one show not to miss. Performing to a packed house, the star of the show Catherine McClements, had everyone captivated in her role of Phèdre; a women that confesses her devastating love for her step-son, Hippolytus, then accuses him of her rape when he denies that love. The post-performance party attracted a number of notable theatre and TV stars, Geoffrey Rush, Marion Potts, Brett Climo, who celebrated with the Company, cast and crew. Phèdre is playing in Melbourne until 2 June.

King Kong climbs Eureka Tower

The ultimate Eureka Skydeck King Kong Experience was unveiled on Tuesday, May 21. To mark the arrival of King Kong to Melbourne in June, Eureka Skydeck brought the giant beast to life on the rooftop of Eureka Tower. In recognition of the arrival of the King Kong the musical to Melbourne - Eureka Skydeck wanted to create an interactive experience to WOW their guests when they visit Eureka Skydeck. A 4.5metre King Kong Hand was suspended 300 metres high outside of Eureka Skydeck with Stunt expert Leigh-Anne Vizer holding on tightly to King Kong's grasp! Eureka Skydeck gave the permission for the construction of the large Kong hand to offer visitors the King Kong Experience at Eureka Skydeck over the next 9 months. The King Kong hand will be placed inside Skydeck on Level 88 of Eureka Tower, where guests can be immersed into an interactive experience in Kong’s Grip overlooking the city. John Forman from Eureka Skydeck believes there is perfect synergy with King Kong and the Iconic Eureka Tower.

Over a stunning eight-course dinner with matched wines, the night focussed on the previous winners, including Justin Wise, George Calombaris, Adam D’Sylva, Daniel Wilson, Josh Murphy and many more, who discussed how winning this prestigious award affected their culinary careers. Over 140 guests enjoyed the dishes from some of Melbourne’s best chefs on a night to remember.

Montalto Exhibition

The rolling hills of Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove on the Mornington Peninsula will again play host to more than 40 contemporary outdoor sculptures this autumn. Owners John and Wendy Mitchell welcome the temporary works to their permanent collection of art, which features past winners of the Montalto Sculpture Prize installed throughout their vast property. Melbourne artist Fredrick White was announced the 2013 winner of the prestigious award at the opening of the exhibition on February 17. His piece, Abundance, uses aluminium to reflect mankind’s connection to the earth, creating a visual experience of balance, tension and movement. White’s work will be on display alongside that of the 23 other finalists dotted around this natural amphitheatre until April 28, before it becomes part of the permanent collection.
