And even though Melbourne can have four seasons in one day there’s a rich and growing ice-cream and gelato scene across the suburbs.

We’ve searched high and low, tasted far and wide, to let let you know about five of our favourite ice-cream and gelato places in Melbourne that you can check out over the summer months.

Gelato Messina

With a team of ‘mad gelato professors’ using a bunch of natural, real (and delicious) ingredients, it’s no wonder Gelato Messina has become a local, national and international institution. With delicious flavours including classics apple pie and chocolate chip there’s something for every taste. There’s even classes to learn how to make the gelato for those who can’t resist the icy creamy treats.

In Melbourne, you’ll find Gelato Messina in Fitzroy, Richmond and Windsor.

 

N2

 

For those who love a science experiment in their ice-cream then N2’s liquid nitrogen, flash frozen gelato is truly something to behold. The concoction produces some spectacular results while the delicious gelato sundaes are being made. N2 doesn’t do healthy desserts so don’t expect any skinny or fat free offerings.  You’ll find N2 in Fitzroy and the CBD in Melbourne.

 

Wills Batch

There’s nothing like the taste of delicious home-made, ice-cream – especially the kind that’s made in small batches at Wills Batch in Elsternwick and Bentleigh. Offering over 50 flavours to creamy connoisseurs (as well as sundaes and shakes), Wills Batch will spoil you for choice.

Jock’s Ice Cream & Sorbets

What’s the difference between ice-cream and a sorbet? You can find out yourself at Jock’s Ice Cream and Sorbet in Albert Park. Jock’s will offer you myriad flavours which he has invented over the years. As an aside, Jock Main (the owner of Jock’s Ice Cream & Sorbets) goes through about 500 litres of milk a week making his delicious creations for creamy consumers. Also, you should ask for the Jock Top if he has them in stock.

My Two Mums 

It’s Australia’s first ice-cream sandwich truck and it offers a delicious array of flavours sandwiched between two tasty cookies. Truly, it’s a match made in heaven. You’ll find My Two Mums at festivals around Melbourne and surrounds. Check out their Facebook for more details.
