To coincide with the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Sofitel Melbourne will host an exhibition entitled Fashion Stills. Designed and staged by Polka Galerie in Paris, the exhibition will feature a series of stunning photographs by Derek Hudson, Françoise Huguier, Jean-Marie Périer and Gérard Uféras. Each of these creative geniuses have masterfully captured moments in haute couture, via an eccentric pose or by immortalising a dress, a design or a celebrated fashion designer's workplace.

{Jean-Marie Périer}
Jean-Marie Périer is a hero in the world of French photography. At just 16 he was taking incredible images of famous musicians including Mick Jagger, James Brown, the Beatles, Johnny Hallyday and Miles Davis. After experimenting in film, Périer returned to photography in the ’90s and has since produced some wonderfully vibrant portraits, including Karl Lagerfeld (above) and Yves Saint Laurent (top), for French and English magazines.

{Gérard Uféras}
According to opera director Gérard Mortier, Gérard Uféras “respects wonder, celebrates the spirit of theatre, informs and thrills”. Born in Paris, Uféras’s works include photographs of European opera houses and behind-the-scenes shots of Givenchy shows (left) and Chanel. In 2009, a retrospective of Uféras’s work was exhibited at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. A year later, his exhibition Paris d’Amour featured Parisian weddings.
